Portraits of Patriots is a grass roots initiative founded in 1998 by William Sanders to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of George Washington. The main objective of the initiative is to return the portrait of George Washington that once hung in every American school.
William Sanders has printed from the original "signed artist proof" the steel engraved presidential portrait of George Washington by William E. Marshall in 1862. Portraits of Patriots Founder and Executive Director, William Sanders, has been recognized by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was awarded their "Medal of Honor," on June 28, 2006.
